Samsung Electronics leads an AI-RAN alliance launched during the Mobile World Congress. Microsoft, Nvidia, Nokia, and other major companies are involved.

The South Korean multinational Samsung Electronics announced its involvement in the alliance to scale up AI-powered 6G network technology. Ultra-fast broadband communication is here to stay and will soon be reached with millions of more devices on a more extensive mobile network.

The AI-RAN alliance is led by industry titans and tech pioneers in telecommunications, semiconductors, and software; Samsung Electronics and other big names such as Nvidia, Arm, SoftBank, Ericsson, Nokia, and Microsoft are also involved.

At the center of this effort is the incorporation of artificial intelligence within wireless communications technologies to enable new levels of performance, reliability, and intelligence in networks, including improved data processing, more predictive analytics, and more autonomic network management. Infusing AI into wireless communications networks would open up new user opportunities, enabling new applications and innovation.

Samsung Electronics’ involvement in the alliance is a testament to its commitment to help advance technological innovation and collaboration within the telecoms industry. Through this alliance and engaging in research, standardization, and commercialization cooperation, industry leaders are combining expertise, resources, and insights to enhance bottom-line business decisions, ultimately accelerating AI-based 6G network technologies development and standardization, saving time and costs and helping the technologies achieve seamless integration into global infrastructure systems.

Member companies will jointly investigate new ways of employing AI through 6G networks, from optimizing network structure to developing new types of algorithms for AI data processing and analysis and developing new paradigms for network operation and management. The alliance has planned three working groups to run its networking technologies development.

Furthermore, the partnership will commit to creating industry standards and best practices to ensure interoperability and operability in different networking environments. This will help set common standards and best practices to roll out AI-empowered 6G solutions worldwide, making the telecommunication ecosystem more harmonious and connected.

The alliance they form has far-reaching implications, going well beyond technological innovation. 6G networks powered by AI are poised to transform nearly every industry imaginable, from healthcare to transportation, manufacturing to entertainment. With ultra-low latency, extreme connection density, and ultra-high reliability, they will enable new use cases such as doctor flights, autonomous vehicles, smart factories, and the metaverse, to name just a few.

As Samsung Electronics embarks on this evolutionary journey, it cements its status as a pioneer in wired and wireless communications technologies and emerging technologies. With a proven track record of innovation in wireless R&D and dedication to innovation and technology, Samsung Electronics remains committed to driving the future of connectivity and the next generation of AI-powered 6G networks.

In the end, this venture also signifies that the move of Samsung Electronics to join the alliance of the research and innovation of ‘AI-enabled 6G wireless network technology’ – evidences another symbolic leaping milestone attained in the telecommunication industry, where more open collaborative innovation, standardization, and researches could be initiated soon, which in turn indicates the unprecedented level of next-gen ultra-high speed, intelligent and efficient connection would be quickly attained.
