Former YouTube CEO, Susan Wojcicki passed on at the age of 56 after a strong battle with non-small cell lung cancer. It’s the end of one part of the technology sector with Wojcicki’s passing. She was a driving force behind the expansion and success of the biggest video-sharing platform in the world.

The note ‘I mourn the loss of Susan Wojcicki’ came from her husband Dennis Troper “My wife, 26, beloved mother of five children, died today after an illness of two years (non small cell lung cancer).” Troper said, “She had an incalculable effect on our family and the world.” Although we are devastated, we are happy we spent time with her.

Beginning in 2014, Wojcicki’s time at YouTube was characterized by important turning points that cemented the platform’s supremacy in the online sphere. Among other significant breakthroughs, YouTube, under her direction, developed YouTube TV and YouTube Premium and increased its monthly active user base to almost 2 billion. In addition, Wojcicki was a fervent supporter of artists and a policy advocate, working to ensure that the platform’s community was inclusive and varied.

Prior to her position at YouTube, Wojcicki was instrumental in Google’s early stages. They include 1998 when she had the generosity of leasing her garage to two men namely Larry Page and Sergey Brin. She was later given the position of Google’s first marketing manager and was charged with the responsibility of developing and expanding AdSense which in the present times is the key lifeblood of Google.

Wojcicki stepped down from her position as the CEO of YouTube in February 2023 citing personal reasons, especially to spend more time with her family, treat illnesses and engage in other personal projects. She said in the statement at the time “I’ve decided it is time to start the next phase of my life and after almost a quarter of a century here, it feels like the right time to focus on my family, on my health, and on new projects that I hold dear to my heart.”

Everybody will miss her in the industry and remember her as a warm, friendly and kind lady who cared for her family as well as her career.

Her husband Dennis Troper and the five children they had together are Willie, Shalia, Athena, Sessa, and Desean. It has not been revealed yet in which manner Ahmed intended to bury his property.
